Special Events
At Sherwood Green, we proudly explore the many cultures, traditions, and holidays from around the world. Throughout the year, we hold special events that help children learn about diversity, kindness, and respect. These experiences make each holiday meaningful and allow children to connect with different traditions.
We enjoy exploring holidays like Diwali, Chinese New Year, Eid, Christmas, Easter, and Hanukkah. Each celebration includes fun activities, crafts, music, and storytelling to bring it to life. For example, we light candles for Diwali, make dragon crafts for Chinese New Year, and create cards for Mother’s and Father’s Day. For babies and toddlers, we explore these events through fun, messy activities, making each experience hands-on and engaging.
We also explore local events like Pancake Day, Bonfire Night, World Book Day, and Harvest Festival, with activities that introduce children to new traditions and foods. Family events like “Mother’s Picnic Day,” “Father’s Breakfast,” and “Afternoon Tea with Grandparents” create opportunities for bonding and build a warm, supportive community.
At the end of the year, we hold a special Graduation Party and an End of Year Trip to celebrate our preschoolers’ growth and make their transition to the next stage memorable and exciting.
Impact of Celebrating Special Events
Celebrating special events at Sherwood Green greatly benefits our children’s learning, social skills, and growth. By exploring different cultural, seasonal, and family-centered events, children gain a better understanding of the world and learn to respect diversity. These celebrations teach them empathy and kindness. For many children, experiencing these diverse celebrations provides important cultural capital, enriching their understanding of the world. Through these events, we nurture children who are open-minded, caring, and prepared to appreciate diversity in their next stages of life.
