Meet Emilia Olkowska, Nursery Director and Manager
I’m Emilia Olkowska, the Nursery Director and Manager at Sherwood Green Eccleshill. I’m passionate about creating a warm and welcoming environment where children feel safe, valued, and inspired to learn.
With a Level 3 qualification in Childcare and studies in Leadership and Management for the Children and Young People’s Workforce, I bring a mix of experience and a drive for continuous improvement to my role. I’ve worked with children of all ages and understand the importance of tailoring care and education to meet the unique needs of every child.
At Sherwood Green, I’m committed to building strong partnerships with families and creating a space where children can develop confidence, curiosity, and joy. I’m proud to lead a team that shares my dedication to providing high-quality early years education.
Outside the nursery, I enjoy spending time with my three boys and traveling to experience new cultures and ideas, which often inspire creative approaches to childcare.
I’m here to support you and your child every step of the way, and I look forward to welcoming you to Sherwood Green!

Our nursery is thoughtfully designed, furnished, and equipped to provide the highest standards of care and education. We’ve created beautiful, engaging environments that inspire children to learn, explore, and thrive. The simple yet enriching surroundings, combined with a variety of learning resources, offer the perfect setting for your child to play, grow, and reach their full potential.
Caterpillars Baby Room
Our Caterpillars Baby Room is a calming, nurturing space where babies feel loved, cared for, and safe. The room is designed to encourage sensory-rich exploration, with features such as a black-and-white area to stimulate eye development through high-contrast photographs and pictures. There is also a relaxing reading area where babies can explore books and enjoy listening to their favourite stories. We support babies in building their understanding of single words and help them begin to use around 50 single words as they grow. During this vital stage, we encourage physical milestones such as rolling, tummy time, crawling, and taking their first independent steps.
To foster independence, we guide babies as they grasp finger foods and bring them to their mouths. They also learn to share control of feeding tools, such as spoons, bottles, or cups, moving towards self-feeding with gentle support. This nurturing and stimulating environment helps babies explore their world and develop essential skills at their own pace.
Lady Bird Baby Room
Our Ladybirds classroom provides a safe and nurturing space designed to foster emotional warmth, sensory exploration, and the growing independence of toddlers. This room encourages children to develop their natural curiosity while supporting their developmental milestones. It also nurtures their journey of self-discovery as they begin to independently select activities, fostering confidence and decision-making skills in a caring and stimulating environment.
Butterflies Toddler Room
This classroom includes carefully designed areas such as sand and water play, a cosy book corner, a role play and small world section, and a sensory exploration area. The modern kitchen role play corner further enhances creativity and helps develop essential life skills.
This nurturing environment supports toddlers in developing crucial skills, including sharing, turn-taking, and toilet training, all while building their confidence and independence.
Busy Bees Pre-School Room
This space prepares children for school through child-led learning inspired by the Curiosity Approach. Activities include mathematical toys, role play, construction, crafts, mark-making, small-world play, and sensory exploration with water and sand. By incorporating everyday items instead of modern toys, children are encouraged to use their imagination and creativity, shaping their own play experiences. This approach fosters problem-solving skills, independence, and a love for learning. Children in this room also develop essential skills such as phonics, relationship-building, confidence, and self-care, ensuring a smooth transition to school life.
Dragonflies Pre-School Room
Dragonflies classroom is designed to help children grow in independence, social skills, and concentration. Through interactive learning, children also explore and learn about the world around them.
In this room, we focus on helping children develop early writing skills and work on key areas to support their development. We prepare children for school by teaching important skills to get them ready for the next stage of their learning journey. We also encourage a love for books and storytelling, helping children enjoy reading and stories. The Dragonflies Room gives children the confidence and tools they need to take on new challenges with excitement.
Our Outdoor Spaces
We have three wonderful gardens designed to spark curiosity, inspire creativity, and help children connect with nature. These spaces give children the chance to learn, play, and grow through fun and exciting activities.
The Main Garden is a lively area where children can explore, develop motor skills, and enjoy sensory play.
The Baby Garden is a safe and nurturing space for our youngest children, offering sensory activities to support their early development.
We also have the Sherwood Green Farm Garden, where children can explore the Bug Hotel, observe the Butterfly Cycle, and go on exciting adventures to find bugs in their natural habitats.We have a Bike Area where children can build confidence and coordination while riding, a Farm Shop for imaginative role-play, and a Natural Obstacle Course that helps children improve their balance, strength, and problem-solving skills.
All of these areas are made from natural, non-toxic wood, creating a safe and eco-friendly environment.

New Experiences at Sherwood Green
We are providing children with enriching experiences that foster their development and enhance their learning. From exciting trips to farms and local attractions to welcoming special visitors, we create endless opportunities for children to explore and learn about the world around them.
Our children enjoy visits from fascinating guests such as owls, a petting farm, firefighters, a dentist, and police officers, all designed to broaden their understanding of different roles in the community. Every year, they also witness the wonder of nature first hand by observing the life cycle of a butterfly and watching ducklings or chicks hatch from their eggs.
These hands-on experiences inspire curiosity, deepen their understanding of the natural world, and create lasting memories, ensuring that every child has the chance to grow, discover, and thrive.
