Sweet & Sour Chicken
Ingredients
Sweet and Sour Sauce:
- Brown sugar
- Apple cider vinegar
- Ketchup
- Low-sodium soy sauce
- Sesame oil
- Garlic, minced
- Corn-starch
- Water
Chicken:
- Chicken breasts, diced
- Olive oil
- Corn-starch
- Green onions, chopped (for garnish)
- Sesame seeds (for garnish)
Instructions
- Make the Sweet and Sour Sauce:
- Combine apple cider vinegar, ketchup, soy sauce, sesame oil, brown sugar, and minced garlic in a saucepan.
- Heat the mixture over medium heat, bringing it to a boil.
- In a separate bowl, mix water and corn-starch until smooth, then stir it into the boiling sauce.
- Let the sauce bubble for a few minutes until it thickens, then set aside.
- Prepare the Chicken:
- Place the diced chicken in a resealable bag or bowl, add corn-starch, and toss until all pieces are evenly coated.
- Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add a few tablespoons of olive oil.
- Fry the chicken in batches until golden and cooked through (no need to deep fry).
- Combine and Serve:
- Once the chicken is fully cooked, pour the prepared sweet and sour sauce into the skillet.
- Stir to coat the chicken pieces in the sauce and continue cooking for a few minutes until heated through.
- Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
